The origin story of Tamago-san

Tamago-San is a project I started exactly two years ago during a three-month stay in Tokyo.

At the time, I was accompanying my girlfriend for her artistic residency. To give some context, I was coming out of a difficult period—my work as an architect had become a constraint, and I felt like I had lost all interest in it. I saw this trip as an opportunity to take a break, refocus, and figure out the direction I wanted to take in my professional life when I returned.

So, I suddenly found myself with a lot of free time in a city I love and thought I knew well, but with no clear purpose.

Well… not entirely. Before leaving, I had decided to buy a camera, thinking it might help me take my time exploring and observing things differently.

While my girlfriend was working on her comic book project, I went out every day, picked a direction more or less at random, walked, observed, and took photos. To be honest, I wasn’t particularly passionate about photography at the time. What little I knew, I had learned from my father and brother, and I had no idea that street photography was a genre of its own. But like many people, I simply used Instagram.

Little by little, during my metro rides, I started looking for more artistic and curated photography accounts. That’s when the idea came to me to create a dedicated account to share a visual diary of my trip with my friends. I asked my girlfriend to draw a small logo, and that’s how Tamago-San was born.

The story goes on, but this post is already long enough for a first introduction. If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading—I hope you enjoy the first series of photos.
